Local residents are being encouraged to get creative at the Carters Steam Fair, which is currently being held at the Royal Victoria Park in Bath until the 19th August.

Not only is it the world’s largest travelling vintage funfair, but each of the rides and wagons have been rescued and lovingly restored using traditional sign writing and painting techniques by the Carter family.

Fairground owner Joby Carter is a leading expert in traditional sign-writing techniques and people fly from all over the world to learn about fairground art, lettering and traditional painting techniques on his sign-writing courses.

If you enjoy photography, then this is your chance to show off your skills and snap a photo of the fair in all its glory for the chance to win prizes.

On Friday 10th August, members of the Bath Photographic Society were invited along to photograph the fair but the competition is open to people of all photographic levels.

For the younger residents of Bath there is also a drawing, colouring and painting competition: whether it’s a picture of the rides, the transport or trying out some traditional sign writing, Carters want to see your pictures of the fair.

Joby Carter said: “These days it’s great to remind our kids that not everything is digital and screen based. So come on kids, put down the iPads this summer holiday and grab some pens and paper.

“Let yourself be creative and then come and have some good old fashioned fun at the fair: show us your drawing when you buy your ride tokens at the fair and we’ll give you a free ride!”

The following prizes are on offer for photographs and drawings of Carters Fair in Bath:

  • First prize of £100 and ten free rides for the best photo of Carters Steam Fair in Bath;
  • 3 runners up prizes of ten free rides for the 18th or 19th August.

Images can be taken on a professional camera or a smartphone.

Simply share your photo on your social media and tag Carters Steam Fair or email your photo to [email protected].

The Carters Steam Fair family are also holding a children’s competition, with the following prizes:

  • First prize of £25 and 5 free rides for the best drawing of the fair;
  • 3 runners up prizes of 5 free rides.

Any children bringing their competition entry along to the fair will get a free ride with any family ride deal purchased.

Children need to hand in their drawing when they purchase or collect their pre-booked ride tokens from the main booth.

The competition closing date is midnight on Thursday 16th August. Winners will be announced on Friday 17th August by 3pm on the Carters Facebook page.
