A number of events are set to take place across Bath and North East Somerset in the coming days to commemorate Remembrance Day and Remembrance Sunday.
Councillor Shaun Stephenson-McGall, Chair of Bath & North East Somerset Council, and Councillor Kevin Guy, council leader, will both lay wreaths on the Poppies to Paddington train on Friday 11th November.
The event is organised by the Veterans Charity and Great Western Railway and symbolises the long journey made by soldiers on their way to war.
Councillor McGall will also lay a wreath at the Timsbury Remembrance Sunday Service on Sunday 13th November.
Councillor Shaun Stephenson-McGall said: “We will never forget the sacrifice of those who gave their lives for our rights and our freedoms.
“It’s important that on Remembrance Day and Remembrance Sunday this year, as every year, we show our continuing gratitude to those who fought valiantly to serve others. It will be a time for us all to reflect and show our respect.”

Friday 11th November
- Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Bereavement Services Remembrance Day Service, Haycombe Cemetery – 10.45am: at the grassed area between the Cross of Sacrifice and the Blitz graves. Includes a two-minute silence at 11.00am. Refreshments will be served in the Top Chapel after the service.
- Abbey Churchyard, Bath – 11.00am: two-minute silence
- Combe Down, Holy Trinity Church – 10.00am: service. 11:00am: Bath United Services Association’s wreath laying ceremony.
- Royal Victoria Park – 11:00am: service at the War Memorial
- Twerton – 11.00am: wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial
Sunday 13th November
- Bath Royal British Legion Remembrance Parade – 11.00am: wreath laying at Royal Victoria Park War Memorial. 2.30pm: From the Guildhall, parade from Milsom St to Abbey Churchyard before a service at Bath Abbey at 3:00pm.
- St Bartholomew’s Church – 11:00am: wreath laying ceremony.
- Weston & Newbridge – 11:00am: wreath laying ceremony.

Saturday 12th November
- Clandown – 12:00pm: Midsomer Norton and Radstock British Legion Dressing of the Graves
- Paulton Cemetery – 11.00am: Dressing of the Graves

Sunday 13th November
- Keynsham Royal British Legion Parade – 9:30am: service at St John’s Church followed by a parade along the High St to Memorial Park for a two-minute silence and wreath laying.
- Midsomer Norton – 10.40am: parade from West Clewes Recreation Ground. 11.00am, two-minute silence at the War Memorial followed by parade to St Johns’ Church for Remembrance Sunday Service.
- Paulton – 2.35pm: Remembrance Parade in the centre. 2:45pm: Remembrance Sunday Service at War Memorial
- Peasedown St John, St John’s Parish Church – 10.45am: Remembrance Sunday Service
- Pensford War Memorial – 11.00am: Parade
- Publow, All Saints Church – 9.30am: Holy Communion
- Saltford War memorial – 10:00am – Saltford Scout and Guides Remembrance Service. Followed by a procession from Chelwood Rd to Broadway to Stratton Rd and to Norman Rd.
- Shoscombe, St Julian’s Church – 11.15am: Remembrance Sunday Service
- Timsbury, St Mary’s Church – 11:00am: Laying of wreaths followed by Remembrance Sunday Service
- Wellow, St Julian’s Church – 10.45am: Remembrance Sunday Service
Avon and Somerset Police will be conducting a police operation on Remembrance Sunday, with officers out on the streets of Bath and engaging with the public.
While there is no known risk to public safety, as with any major event, police are asking people to be vigilant and if something doesn’t feel right, speak to officers either in person or call 999.
