Plans to give Alice Park in Bath a new lease of life have taken further steps, following the announcement of further funding to improve and enhance facilities at the site.
Proposals, which will see the park being placed as one of the area’s top amenities, include a new skate park in the North West corner.
Plans for the new skate park, which were first discussed four years ago, have now been cemented, with designs being finalised with developers.
With funding from B&NES Council for the project, the local community has also contributed £30,000 towards the cost.
Councillor Geoff Ward (Conservative, Bathavon North) Chair of the Alice Park Trust, recognised the interest from residents to join up the park’s pathways and put this at the forefront of priorities.
As a result of public interest, the Alice Park Trust has now secured a further £43,000 from the Community Infrastructure Levy for the project.
Sport facilities at the park often bring visitors to the area, which councillors say is fundamental to the success of the development. There are ongoing talks with the Lawn Tennis Association, who are keen to refurbish the six tennis courts at the site, whilst Bath Boules have also shown interest.
The Alice Park Trust has received an additional £25,000 for further park improvements and projects, which will further enhance the park’s facilities.
Cllr Geoff Ward said: “These are exciting times for the park and my Trust Committee are leading the way to see the park rejuvenated which will include improving the pond area which residents have expressed concerns about.
“We would like to upgrade the play equipment and introduce an outdoor fitness centre to promote health and wellbeing. We are keen to also introduce a park waste recycling scheme.”
It’s hoped the redevelopment will provide Alice Park with a sustainable future, while keeping it as a vital community hub for local residents.
