Quiz Set To Raise Money For Air Ambulance Heroes

A quiz night is to be held in Peasedown St John in aid of the Great Western Air Ambulance, which covers Bath, Bristol and the surrounding areas for emergency life-saving critical care.

Organised by 17-year-old Writhlington School student and local resident Carenza Clifford, the event will include live music and a cash prize of £100 for the winning team.

Carenza said: “The reason I am holding this quiz night is because in July 2014 the Great Western Air Ambulance attended a road traffic accident that my cousin was involved in.

“Sadly, despite their best efforts, nothing could be done to save him.

“Inspired by their hard work and dedication, I wanted to raise money for them because they don’t get funding from the government and rely solely on donations from the public.”

Founded in 2008, the Great Western Air Ambulance is charity funded and regularly saves the lives of local people across the west.

They provide life saving emergency care to people who cannot be reached by road, or are in a state so critical that they require the specialist skills of their team at the scene of the incident.

Though they are part of the regional 999 response service, and work closely with NHS hospitals, they are entirely charity funded by local people.

Peasedown councilor Karen Walker (Independent) said: “Congratulations to Carenza for the work she has already done to raise money for this vital cause, and for organising the quiz night.

“Based in Filton, the Great Western Air Ambulance covers a population of 800,000 people over six counties.

“Run entirely by volunteer staff, the organisation attends at least four accidents every day.

“With costs of at least £2,000,000 every year needed to stay operationally, every penny raised for these brave heroes is worth it!”

Peasedown St John’s Great Western Air Ambulance Quiz Night will be held at Peasedown Youth Centre on Friday 18th September at 7.30pm.

The entry fee is £5 per person, which will include food, live music and a raffle.
