Another attempt to develop a vacant site at Odd Down has been submitted to Bath & North East Somerset Council.
Westlea Holdings Ltd’s latest scheme for land to the rear of 9/9A Bloomfield Road is for two detached houses.
Earlier this year, the developer withdrew plans for a three-storey student accommodation block of 15 bedrooms on the site.
At the time, ward councillors received several concerns from local residents including about the development being out of keeping in the neighbourhood, and that the expectation that it would be a ‘zero car’ development was unrealistic and difficult to enforce in an area already at parking capacity.
The ward councillors also highlighted that the privacy of nearby back gardens would be “blighted” by the development.
A report prepared by the applicant’s planning consultants regarding the latest bid to develop the land says it is considered to be a brownfield site currently occupied by an L-shape row of 14 single garages, with an outdoor parking area for around eight vehicles.
The proposed development of two three-bed houses would each have three off-street parking spaces and additional visitor spaces. There would be “well-proportioned” gardens.
The report adds: “With a vacant site there is a danger of trying to over develop, and squeeze as many properties in as possible.
“We have adopted completely the opposite approach, focusing on providing two very high quality, well-designed properties.”
The deadline for comments is 19th June. The planning reference is 24/01924/FUL.
