Plans for family-style children’s home at Odd Down revealed

Plans for a residential children’s home at Odd Down have been submitted to Bath & North East Somerset Council.

The Guildhall in Bath

The application seeks a Certificate of Lawful Proposed Use for a home for up to four children aged from eight to 17 at Old Fosse Road.

The semi-detached five-bed house is currently home to a “large family of teenagers and parents”.

The application from Katecares Consultancy Limited describes the area as being “ideal” for providing a stable, caring, and community-integrated environment for children requiring residential care.

It says the property will be registered as an emotional and behavioural home and will operate in a non-institutional, family-style setting, with shared cooking, dining and living spaces.

Local children will be prioritised to live in the home and will undergo a “stringent” impact risk assessment to ensure they integrate with the local community. It is expected they will live at the home long term.

“This is not a halfway house or emergency housing for children,” the application states.

No external alterations are proposed.

The home would also need to gain the approval of Ofsted, which has regulatory powers outside of normal planning control.

The planning reference is 25/02033/CLPU.
