The Somer Valley Foodbank is planning to open a new distribution centre in Paulton on Wednesdays from 11.30 to 1.30 pm, and is looking to recruit new volunteers to help the project.
Volunteers would be required to meet clients, give them a cup of tea or coffee, chat with them, select and pack the food orders from the store and signpost them to other help agencies.
The foodbank is designed to help individuals and families in crisis through the provision of emergency food supplies.
Local care professionals in the Somer Valley area refer people by issuing them a voucher for the foodbank centre where they are given their food supplies, a cup of coffee and help in finding other professionals who can help them out of their crisis.
In rural areas they give Emergency Food Boxes directly to local care-workers to distribute. The foodbank gives the general public the opportunity to contribute to and support local well-being in a simple practical way.
There will be training to explain the relationship with the Trussell Trust and what procedures will need to be followed.
If you are interested in helping at the Paulton distribution centre, and are willing to attend a 2 hour training session, contact Paul Woodward on [email protected] or visit the website at www.somervalley.foodbank.org.uk.
