After the success of last year’s first ever Great Village Bake Off at Peasedown St John’s Party in the Park, organisers have announced plans for its return this summer.

Coordinated by the Peasedown WI (Women’s Institute), local people will have the chance to showcase their skills at this year’s festival.

Party in the Park Secretary Jeannie Crawford said: “We’re looking forward to working in partnership again with the Peasedown WI to see a range of delicious entries in the village’s second Great Village Bake Off. It’s always encouraging to see initiatives like this coming together that allow people to practice and show off their baking skills.”

Peasedown’s Great Village Bake Off, based on the hit BBC TV show The Great British Bake Off, is being organised by the Peasedown WI, in partnership with the festival team.

The competition is open to all and includes two categories:

  • Victoria Sandwiches;
  • Decorated Rich Tea Biscuits (children in Year 6 and below).

Contestants may enter only one category, with all entries being delivered to the WI in Beacon Hall between 1.30pm – 3pm on Saturday 11th June. All entries must be delivered ready for display.

The entries will be judged – with the winners being named around 4pm in front of the Party in the Park festival main stage.

A prize will be awarded to the winner of each category.

Kathy Thomas, Peasedown WI’s Great Village Bake Off coordinator, said: “We are very pleased to be working with the Party in the Park management team again and organising this year’s ‘Great Village Bake Off’.

“We are sure that many people will take up the challenge and we are looking forward to receiving their entries. This is a wonderful opportunity for the men, women and children of the village to show us their baking and decorating skills and to have them on display in Beacon Hall and then to be judged here in the village.”

For more information about the Great Village Bake Off, and to take part visit www.peasedownpartyinthepark.org.uk.

Entry forms will be available from the 14th May and can be downloaded from the website, from various shops in the village or contact Kathy Thomas on 07918713240 (preferably by text).

There will be an entry fee of £1 for the Victoria Sandwich and 50p for a decorated biscuit, to be paid on the day.
