Peasedown St John Community Library has joined the campaign in support of carers rights this winter, ahead of national Carers Rights Day being held on Thursday 21st November.

Each year Carers Rights Day takes place to inform carers in local communities of their rights and how to get the help and support they need.

This year’s theme is ‘Helping you find your way’, to encourage individuals to seek the support that they are entitled to and to make sure they know they are not alone.

Peasedown Community Library Operations Manager, Cllr Karen Walker, said: “According to the charity, Carers UK, 6.5 million people across the UK are carers, with loved ones now living longer it is estimated that 6,000 individuals are becoming carers every day.

“Caring for someone is not easy and Carers UK is there to support these individuals by listening, offering expert advice and informing you of your rights and entitlements as a carer.

“To support the campaign, we have 100 copies of Carers UK’s newest information guide, which we’re giving away FREE at Peasedown Library.

“The guide contains useful information on what support is available, and what benefits those caring for others maybe entitled to.”

Any resident is invited to pick up a booklet at the library, which is open at 33a St John’s Close, Peasedown St John (BA2 8JG) on:

  • Mondays,1pm – 4pm
  • Wednesdays, 1pm – 4pm
  • Saturdays, 10am – 1pm

Commenting, volunteer and local councillor Sarah Bevan added: “It is important to us to support local carers in our area and so we are helping to raise awareness of carers rights with this campaign.

“It is important all that carers are aware of their rights and entitlements, which if they are new to caring they may not even know about.”

Visit the Carers UK website at www.carersuk.org, to find out more about the campaign and how you can get involved.
