Peasedown St John’s new community library project has received a near £500 funding boost, thanks to local housing association and house-builder Curo.

The library, which is due to open later this year, is part of B&NES Council’s new community libraries programme where local residents are provided with resources and funding to run libraries in their own towns and villages.
Peasedown Library Manager, Cllr Karen Walker, said: “The response we’ve had from the community for the new library has been fantastic.
“Almost 1,000 books have been donated, 20 volunteers have been recruited and Curo has given us a space to house the new library, for free!
“Our application to open the new resource has been given the green light by Library Managers, we’re just waiting for the Council’s Solicitor to sign off the paperwork and agree on an opening date.”
B&NES has set aside 700 brand new books, which will soon be delivered to the library, and residents can now join the new Peasedown Library by registering at any of the neighbouring libraries in Midsomer Norton or Bath.
Andrew Hodges, Community Grant Scheme Coordinator for Curo, said: “Curo is committed to supporting projects that tackle loneliness and isolation, which is just what this library does.
“With several hundred tenants living in the immediate area where Peasedown Community Library is located, we know it’s going to be well used by people who want access to books, educational resources and useful information.
“This grant follows on from the £500 we allocated to the Residents’ Association last year for their dementia-friendly, sensory garden which is located just outside of the new library.
“On my visit to Peasedown last Wednesday I was pleased to see how impressive and ascetically pleasing the garden now looks!”
Peasedown St John Community Library will be located at 33a St John’s Close, Peasedown St John, BA2 8JG.
It’s hoped an opening date for the new library will soon be provided by Bath and North East Somerset Council.
