New identity unveiled as Bath orchestra begins its next chapter

A Bath-based orchestra has changed its name as it looks to build on growing audiences and an expanding programme of community work.

Bath Philharmonia will now be known as Bath Philharmonic Orchestra, with the new title being introduced alongside a redesigned visual identity and the launch of its 2026/27 season.

The organisation said the change reflects how its work has developed beyond concert performances, with creative projects now running throughout the year for schools, young people and communities across the South West.

More than 12,000 people are reached annually through its activities, including thousands who have attended an orchestral concert for the first time.

Its work has also included a nationally recognised programme supporting young carers, a growing number of school projects and performances in Bath featuring internationally acclaimed soloists.

Executive director Simone Homes said: “Over the past few years we’ve grown not only in scale, but in purpose. We’ve become clearer about who we are, what we stand for and the role we want to play in the lives of our audiences and communities.

“Our new name and identity better reflect that ambition while remaining true to everything people value about Bath Phil.”

The new logo is intended to represent the musicians and instruments which come together to form an orchestra, while drawing on musical notation and features of Bath’s architecture.

The organisation said its central purpose remains unchanged, with a continued focus on making live orchestral music accessible, relevant and welcoming.

Its first season under the Bath Philharmonic Orchestra name will feature performers including Jeneba Kanneh-Mason, Sophie Bevan and Esther Yoo.

The programme will combine established orchestral works with contemporary music, with an emphasis on the shared experience of live performance.
