Additional bins have been introduced in the barbecue area of Royal Victoria Park in Bath in a bid to help keep the area clean and tidy over the summer.
New rubbish and recycling facilities have been provided including three specialist bins for disposing of single use barbecues, two bins for glass recycling and three extra-large bins for cans and plastics, paper and card, and for general waste.
The introduction of the new bins follows efforts earlier this year to reduce litter, with Bath & North East Somerset Council carrying out a seven-week operation to clean up A and B roads and more recently highlighting fly tipping enforcement action.
Bath city centre Councillor, Sue Craig, commented: “Royal Victoria Park is one of Bath’s key attractions for residents and visitors alike. This can mean there’s a lot of rubbish from picnics and so on to be disposed of, especially in good weather.
“I know most park users want to be responsible and put their waste in a proper bin, so these new, larger bins will be a big help. No-one will have an excuse for not disposing of their rubbish properly.”
Councillor Dave Wood, Cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services, added: “These extra bins have been installed in time for the summer holidays and should help keep Bath tidy as more people are out and about in our green spaces.
“More rubbish has been left in our open spaces since lockdown restrictions eased. We’re putting extra bins in place and we’re asking people to be responsible with their rubbish. Find space in a bin or take it home.
“Please think of others and leave parks and open spaces as you would wish to find them.”
