Bath & North East Somerset Council’s heritage services team has submitted an application to carry out alterations for various works to upgrade security as well as connectivity.
A report says the proposed works are to the ground-floor shop, the office block, Pump Room, meeting rooms next to the Concert Room (the museum reception hall) and the mezzanine level of the museum which form part of the Roman Baths Complex.
It says efforts have been made to minimise the impact the works will have on the Grade I listed site.
The proposal involves installing four new CCTV cameras, along with wireless access points, removing and changing network points and installing a new door to match others.
The report says: “The new CCTV cameras are required to improve security and visitor/staff safety. The cameras will cover areas which, at present are not covered by the surveillance system; these areas contain valuable objects, have high pedestrian traffic and accommodate events throughout the year.
“The proposed cameras will match the existing cameras and use existing cable routes.”
The report continues: “The wireless access points are required to improve connectivity, continuing business as usual for operational staff and support a key feature of the new retail contract, giving the ability to take payments away from the fixed till points.
“This requires a wireless handheld till solution. The proposed wireless access points will match the existing and use existing cable routes.”
The four upgraded network points are to update connectivity in the meeting rooms, again using the same cable routes.
The report says the new door will “optimise the circulation route in a space which will be displaying exhibitions within the museum”.
Visitors won’t have to exit through the entrance door, eliminating pinch points, bottlenecks and improving security.
The planning reference is 26/03327/REG13 and the deadline for any comments on the plans is 8th October.
