The Met Office has issued its highest level of alert, a red weather warning, for strong winds across the South West and Wales.
The red weather warning will be in force from 3am tomorrow, Saturday 7th December, through to 11am.
An amber warning is also in force between 1am and 9pm, alongside a yellow warning between 3pm today, Friday 6th December, and 6am on Sunday.
The areas affected by the amber warning include Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, though it’s hoped the Bath area will avoid the worst of the weather.
The winds are expected due to Storm Darragh, which could bring gusts of up to 90mph.
The Met Office is forecasting gusts of up to 63mph in Bath, with continued winds of around 30mph.
The winds are expected to settle down overnight into Monday, though there could be significant damage and disruption caused by the strong gusts.
People are being urged to remain indoors and prepare for the risk of power cuts.
Residents are being advised to avoid travelling by road during the potentially dangerous conditions, with flying debris and falling trees likely.
They are also reminded to check for loose items outside homes and secure them. Items that could pose a risk include Christmas decorations, bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, sheds, and fences.
