Rain had been expected throughout today, Monday 23rd September, but the Met Office has now said there could be larger slow-moving areas of heavy rainfall through until 9pm.

The weather service has advised that some parts will see 60-80mm of rainfall, and a few places may receive 120mm or more.

Warnings have been issued for travel disruption in the region, and the likelihood of flooding.

Lightning may also be an additional hazard in some areas.

The Met Office scales its weather warnings based on their likelihood and impact. An amber warning means the likelihood of severe weather is high, with a relatively high impact.

Residents are being advised to avoid travelling during potentially dangerous conditions.
