The 793rd Mayor of Bath, Councillor Manda Rigby, has launched a dedicated Twitter feed to allow residents across the city to stay up to date with what she is doing.
In a normal year, a Mayor can expect to take part in around five hundred engagements, mainly attending invites from external organisations, hosting civic dignitaries or having Parlour sessions for patronage groups and twinning associations.
This year the Mayor is on track to do the same number, but under the current circumstances, they have been self-generated, mainly remotely visiting schools, care facilities, using benches for informal chats across the city, and holding a number of interviews.
Madam Mayor said: “We are in the middle of a website update, but in the interim, we have launched ourselves onto Twitter as a way of instant communication about what we are doing.
“Usually it would be full of photos of events, the events are still happening, but think you would all get very bored of photos of Zoom meetings, so for now, fewer photos, more text.
“Please give us a follow on Twitter, and look out for our inaugural tweet announcing a project to do with my theme of combatting loneliness at the beginning of February!
“I would love lots of likes and retweets, there will be a hashtag I would love to get trending in Bath, as connecting with people is very very dear to my heart.”
