A married couple who have spent more than 20 years serving their local community have been named the winners of the 2022 Peasedown St John Community Civic Award.

David and Maureen Byrne, known for their loyal service at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, also volunteer at the Somer Valley Foodbank and The Hive Community Centre.
Trustees from the Peasedown Community Trust made a surprise visit to St Joseph’s Church to present David and Maureen with their award.
Cllr Karen Walker, pictured with David and Maureen, said: “Thank you both for everything you’ve done for our village and continue to do.
“You’re valued members of our community who always go the ‘extra mile’ to help others. Thank you!
“Your quiet, selfless service to Peasedown hasn’t gone unnoticed. The Peasedown Community Trust is pleased to present you with this year’s award.”
The Peasedown St John Community Civic Award was launched last year by the Peasedown Community Trust to honour and recognise the village’s local unsung heroes.
It replaced the former Sara Holley Community Award which ran for 10 years in the village.
Last year’s winner was Katie Chun, Manager at the Hive Community Centre.
Trust Chairman, Gavin Heathcote, said: “Peasedown St John is a fantastic place to live. Its community spirit is second-to-none thanks to the hard work and dedication of many volunteers who go ‘above and beyond’ to serve others.
“In response to the coronavirus pandemic, Peasedown Community Trust launched the brand-new Community Civic Award last year – an award that highlights and applauds the outstanding voluntary service of an individual, or group of individuals, in our village.”
