Bath & North East Somerset Council has said it will be closing Manvers Street car park in Bath from Monday 17th February for four weeks, to allow for essential maintenance work to take place.

The key works taking place will be focussing on reducing surface water ponding and providing a water-resistant surface across the whole upper level parking area, the vehicle ramp to the lower level and stairways.

The works are needed to protect the car park for future use and prevent structural damage.

Councillor Joanna Wright, cabinet member for Transport Services, said: “Manvers Street car park is an important facility for people who need to drive into the centre of Bath so we are carrying out these essential works to protect the car park and avoid unplanned closures in future.

“We apologise for any inconvenience while the works are being carried out.

“Although we encourage walking, cycling and public transport for residents and visitors travelling into Bath, where drivers do need to use their cars we hope these improvements will make this facility easier for people to use.”

Whilst the car park is closed, the council will be taking the opportunity to make a number of other minor improvements to minimise the risk of potential future closures to Manvers Street.

These will include:

  • Existing lower level lighting to be replaced with new LED lighting
  • Revised white lining on the upper level
  • Clearly marking pedestrian walkways separate from parking and vehicle access routes on the upper level
  • A slip-resistant level surface
  • Installation of a height restriction barrier to the ramp leading to the lower level to reduce the potential of impact damage.
