Work to reconstruct North Parade in Bath is progressing well, after the carriageway and drainage reached the end of their life and B&NES Council began working to repair the road.
Bath & North East Somerset Council has split the work into several phases to maintain access to destinations on North Parade Road, including the Leisure Centre, while the road is closed.
The first phase was completed as scheduled in August and phase two will begin on Sunday 18th September.
The second phase of work was due to commence on 11th September, however due to a number of events taking place in the City on and around the weekend of 17th September it was decided to postpone the start of works until Sunday 18th September.
Councillor Anthony Clarke (Conservative, Lansdown), Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “Because we are expecting a very large number of people visiting the city in September for a university open day, home rugby match and Jane Austen Festival we have taken the sensible decision to put back the start of the next stage to help keep traffic moving.”
Phase two of the works: 18th September – 2th October 2016
The section of North Parade from the entrance to Bath Sports and Leisure Centre to Bath Cricket Club entrance will be closed while work is carried out.
Vehicle access to the leisure centre will be possible from the Pierrepont Street direction, while the cricket club will only be accessible by vehicle from the Pulteney Road direction.
Phase three: 3rd October – 16th October 2016
The section of North Parade from the Bath Cricket Club entrance to Pulteney Road will be closed while work is carried out.
Bath Sports and Leisure Centre and the cricket club will be accessible by vehicle from the Pierrepont Street direction.
Overnight work for final surfacing
The final layer of surfacing for the phase two and three sections of the road will be carried out at night in order to minimise disruption to the highway network, and will be timed to accommodate the requirements of the leisure centre and Pavilion.
It is anticipated that the working hours will be from 10pm to 6am. This will be carried out immediately after phases two and three are complete.
During this time there will be no road access available to premises off North Parade. It is expected that this will take up to three nights to complete, including the laying of the road markings. The majority of noisy works, such as drilling, will be carried out prior to the overnight period.
Access to the recreation ground, leisure centre and Bath Cricket Club will be maintained throughout the three phases, and access to Bath Magistrates Court will be available via Pulteney Road when the works prevent access from North Parade.
Updates on the project, including dates of the different phases and access during these times are available via www.bathnes.gov.uk/northparade.
