Residents in the Cam Valley area are being invited to attend their upcoming local Connecting Communities Forum, where they’ll be given the chance to discuss the climate emergency.
Connecting Communities Forums are supported by Bath & North East Somerset Council, bringing public services, local organisations and residents together to address areas of local concern.
The next meeting of the Cam Valley Area Forum – which covers Dunkerton & Tunley, Shoscombe, Priston, Freshford, Monkton Combe, Combe Hay, Hinton Charterhouse, Newton St Loe, Southstoke, Wellow Parish, Kelston, Englishcombe and Camerton – will be held on Wednesday 18th September from 7pm to 9pm at the Freshford Village Memorial Hall, Freshford Lane, Freshford, Somerset, BA2 7UR.
Invited are the area’s parish councils, community organisations ward councillors – as well as local residents.
Councillor Dine Romero, Leader of Bath & North Somerset Council, said: “The council recognises that Bath and North East Somerset is a diverse area with differing needs and priorities.
“It values the local information and feedback the Forums provide as these help to shape local services. We are keen to engage with as many local residents as possible so these meetings are open to the public and anyone is welcome to attend.
“I am looking forward to hearing views on our new priorities, including addressing the climate emergency and giving people a greater say in decision-making.
“Bradford on Avon Town Council will be attending the forum to discuss what they have achieved since declaring a climate emergency in their local area.
“It is hoped that we will be able to inspire more local councils and communities to rise to this important challenge.”
The forum is taking the opportunity to give the majority of the agenda over to climate change to learn from groups that are taking part in activities that show what differences can be made at a local level, including Bradford on Avon Town Council.
John Adler, Chair of Cam Valley Forum, said: “We are really keen to see residents from the Cam Valley area and beyond joining us to engage on the important issue of climate emergency.
“In taking over the agenda for this meeting, I hope that some of the steps that are being taken locally will be demonstrated and that it encourages each individual to consider what contribution they are able to make.”
There will an opportunity for an open discussion at the meeting to explore further how the council, parish councils, local organisations and residents can work together to address the climate emergency.
The Forums help to improve local engagement, encourage people to talk to each other and share their skills and ideas.
