Dorothy House Hospice Care is inviting locals to join them at their annual Light up a Life services, to remember loved ones in the run up to Christmas, between 27th November and 6th December.
This year two new services have been added in Keynsham and Midsomer Norton, to make a total of eleven services across Bath and North-East Somerset, Somerset and Wiltshire.
All services will start at 6pm with doors opening from 5.30pm, entry is available to all and no tickets are required.
This year, the Bath Abbey service is at 6pm on Tuesday 27th November and has the added magic of the voices of Bath Camerata chamber choir who are generously donating their time for free.
The services are around forty-five minutes long and will feature Christmas carols, readings, an opportunity to remember loved ones and to light a candle in their memory.
These seasonal services of remembrance are part of the annual Dorothy House ‘Light up a Life’ Appeal.
Last year the appeal raised £51,000 to help the hospice provide palliative and end of life care, free of charge to local communities in Bath and North-East Somerset, parts of Wiltshire and Somerset and it’s hoped the appeal will raise even more funds to help Dorothy House again this year.

Gerry Rees, President of Bathavon Rotary Club said: “I’m looking forward to reading a poem at the Bath Abbey service of light. The Bathavon Rotary Club has supported Dorothy House for a number of years, particularly in providing a range of exercise equipment for their Sulis gym at Winsley. It is a wonderful hospice and we are proud to support it.”
Dorothy House Hospice Care, Community Fundraiser, Yvonne Brunton, who helped organise the services added: “The Light up a Life Appeal and Services of Light are a very special time for families and friends to join together and remember a loved one.
“Many people gain great encouragement from attending the services and view it as the start of their Christmas.’
Dorothy House Hospice Care, chief executive John Davies said: “It’s always a privilege to attend the Dorothy House Services of Light at Bath Abbey and other places of worship across Somerset and Wiltshire. The services are a great opportunity for families to remember loved ones and reflect before the busy Christmas season begins.
“Since 1976, the hospice has cared for 45,000 patients and their families in the local community and this has been made possible by the generosity of many supporters and volunteers who have made Dorothy House the special place it is today.”
