This Valentine’s Day, women across the Bath area are being invited to make a date with Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, taking place at Royal Victoria Park in June this year.
Event organisers are asking women to share the love by signing up for a Race for Life 5k / 10k at Royal Victoria Park on Sunday 11th June or Pretty Muddy event which is held at Bath Racecourse on Sunday 3rd September.
Brenda Scott, Cancer Research UK’s South West Events Manager, said: “Valentine’s Day is the perfect date to enter Race for Life. By taking part, and raising money for life-saving research, participants will be playing a crucial role in helping more men, women and children survive cancer – giving them the chance to have more time with their loved ones.”
She continued: “Taking part in Race for Life is a hugely moving experience thanks to our brave army of inspirational participants. Many will be remembering loved ones lost to cancer or celebrating the lives of people dear to them who have survived.
“Every day, 90 people are diagnosed with cancer in the South West*. That’s why we’re calling on women in Bath to make a date to beat cancer this Valentine’s Day. Together, we can stop this devastating disease in its tracks.”
Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring women-only series of 5k, 10k, Pretty Muddy, Marathon and Hiking events which raise millions of pounds every year to help beat cancer sooner by funding life-saving research.
One in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives, but the good news is more people are surviving the disease now than ever before.
Survival rates have doubled since the early 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress.
Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work relies on the public’s support. Thanks to the generosity of its supporters, the charity was able to spend around £2 million last year in the South West on some of the UK’s leading scientific and clinical research – helping more men, women and children survive.
Last year, Race for Life Pretty Muddy took place for the first time in the city. The women-only, non-competitive 5k obstacle course – with an extra helping of mud – received a whole-hearted welcome from the thousands of women who took part.
Women can complete the course at their own pace, climbing, jumping, walking and laughing their way around. It’s about women of all ages tackling cancer together.
In the South West, Pretty Muddy will also take place in Bristol on Saturday 1st July.
Brenda continued: “Race for Life events are non-competitive and participants can choose to walk, jog or run around the course. Whether they’re planning a 5k amble with friends, a 10k sprint or a mud-splattered race around Pretty Muddy, every step participants take will help to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
“This Valentine’s Day, we’re calling on ladies in Bath to sign up and be part of a collective force of women who are united in their aim to beat cancer sooner.”
