A local charity that supports teenagers and adults with learning disabilities is celebrating 20 years of working with the community with new supported housing in Redfield Road, Midsomer Norton.
At the same time, SWALLOW is offering the opportunity of independent supported living to four more people at the new housing development, Beecham Place, off the Fosse Way in Westfield.
Thanks to support from Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Housing Development Team and Aster Group, an ethical developer and landlord who is delivering affordable homes on the development, four brand new flats have been made available to SWALLOW members.
Bev Craney, SWALLOW Chief Executive, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our members, they will move into their brand new homes and be able to live independently in the community with support from SWALLOW’s experienced staff.
“We are very grateful for all the help that we have been given from B&NES Council’s Housing Development Team and from Aster to make this dream, a reality.”
Councillor Tim Warren (Conservative, Mendip), Leader of Bath & North East Somerset Council, said: “It is really important that young people with learning disabilities who are able to live independently have the opportunity to do so.
“The Swallow charity has been providing support through housing, education and training for 20 years and I congratulate them on their outstanding work in the community. I have visited the charity and have met some of their service users, who benefit hugely from their work. I welcome the availability of these new flats.”
Margaret Wright, Regional Director for Aster Group added: “We are committed to supporting our local communities and delighted that we are able to give more people the opportunity to have a home of their own.
“Schemes like these really do help transform lives and we’re proud to play our part.”
