The Leader of B&NES Council Councillor Tim Warren will mark the opening of the new facilities at Bath Sports and Leisure Centre by sending down the inaugural ball at Bath’s first ever ten pin bowling alley.
The facilities include an eight-lane alley, a soft play area and an American-style diner
The event will mark the near completion of the second phase of a £8million refurbishment by the Council in partnership with charitable social enterprise GLL, which operates the Council’s leisure centres under the Better brand.

Councillor Bob Goodman, (Conservative, Combe Down), Cabinet Member for Development & Neighbourhoods, said: “I’m delighted that these wonderful new leisure facilities will be opening this week. They are a great addition to the city and will, I’m sure, encourage many more people to spend their leisure time here.”

The new soft play area replaces the former Zany Zone soft play facility. The new five-storey structure allows children under 12 to climb, crawl and explore while their parents can relax knowing their child is in a safe and fun environment. With an additional play area for children under 3 years, it’s perfect for families of all ages.
The first phase of the completed re-development involved two new, purpose-built, fitness studios, a new state-of-the-art gym and a refurbished sports hall.

“The addition of the bowling alley – as well as the new soft play area – allows us to provide even more fun, affordable leisure activities for all the family.”

Bath & North East Somerset Council worked closely with Sport England on the redevelopment of the centre to ensure the project met with its national aims of providing accessible leisure facilities that encouraged people to live active lives.
The scheme, which received £1.5 million of National Lottery funding, forms part of the Council’s £17 million programme to improve leisure facilities across the district.
