Bath charity Julian House is inviting members of the public to find out more about its work to support families from Afghanistan and Syria as they resettle in the UK.
People are encouraged to find out more about the dedicated work and challenges faced by the Julian House Refugee Resettlement team, watch a short documentary and sample Syrian food prepared by one of the families the charity is supporting.
The Refugee Resettlement Service helps to enable the resettlement of those who have been identified by the United Nations as being the most vulnerable people fleeing persecution, violence, and life-threatening challenges in their countries of origin.
Funded by the Home Office via Bath & North East Somerset Council, the team works mostly with families, resettled through the government UK Resettlement Scheme (UKRS) and Afghan Relocation and Assistance Policy (ARAP) schemes.
These schemes exist to enable the resettlement of families and individuals who have been identified by the United Nations as some of the most vulnerable people, many of whom have significant medical conditions and/or who have survived torture.
The project supports and empowers families to rebuild their lives, move forwards from trauma, and live happily and independently in the UK.
The main goal of the service is to empower families to live independently, as the support offered reduces over time as families learn the language, engage in the community, find employment, and live happy and fulfilled lives.
Whilst the event is free to enter, donations are welcomed to cover costs. You can register for the event on Wednesday 22nd June, 6pm – 8pm, at Widcombe Social Club via this link.
