Essential works to upgrade gas pipes in the Oldfield Park area of Bath have been delayed due to engineering issues, Wales & West Utilities have announced.
The work, which was due to start yesterday, Monday 7th March, will now begin on 28th March.
Barring any further issues, the upgrades are expected to be complete by 2nd June and will keep the gas flowing safely to heat and power local homes and businesses.
To keep disruption to a minimum, Wales & West Utilities has liaised closely with Bath & North East Somerset Council to plan the work.
So that engineers and the local community are kept safe during the work, it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place.
This will include a road closure on Livingstone Road, between the junction of Moorland Road and the junction of Arlington Road. This will be in operation from 28th March to 14th May.
Ahead of the work starting, Wales & West Utilities has also liaised with local businesses and bus companies to inform them of the plans.
Wales & West Utilities Jake Sami is managing this gas pipe upgrade work. He said: “Due to engineering issues, we have taken the decision to briefly delay our gas pipe upgrade work in Bath. It will now start on 28th March.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Bath.
“Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.
“We will work as safely and as quickly as possible to finish the work, whilst keeping inconvenience to a minimum for local people and road users.”
