A charity golf competition held in Bath has raised almost £5,000 for local charities and reunited some former pupils with their teachers from 40 years ago.
The annual Rotary Club of Bath Corporate Day took place at Bath Golf Club in Claverton Down.
40 teams of 4 players competed throughout the day for a trophy, and money is raised through the entrance fees paid by the teams, and from sponsors.
This year a donation of £3,000 was made at the end of the evening to Young Carers.
A further £2,000 was donated to the Rotary Club’s Charitable Trust Fund, and to Inner Wheel, whose members organised the ‘Halfway House’ refreshments on the course during the day.
Young Carers Acting Chief Executive, David Trumper, said: “This donation is incredibly generous; it will make a huge difference to what we are able to do to support young people in Bath who find themselves acting as carers for other family members, for a wide variety of reasons.
“My sincere thanks go to all of the players, and to the Rotary Club for organising this event.”
This year the trophy for the overall best score was won by Mann Accountancy.
Two teams had a special reason to celebrate, as they included teachers and pupils who last met 40 years ago.
Bath Rotarians Paul Suchley and Rod Davies met when they were on the staff together at Townmead School, Hillingdon, West Drayton in the 1970s. They were joined at the event by former pupils and friends.
Rod said: “It was such fun to meet these guys again after all this time. They had hardly changed at all. It took a couple of them a few holes to stop calling Paul and me ‘Sir’!”.
