Golfers at Lansdown Golf Club recently exceeded expectations at their charity golf day when over £7000 was raised to be donated to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) and CLIC Sargent.
The event took place on Friday 18th August, with over 100 people making up 35 teams playing on the course.
Making up the winning team were Dan Palomeque, Gavin Palomeque, Curtis Silcox and James Ledger.
The club was aiming to raise £5000 to be split between the two charities however Captain John Butler was delighted to have raised nearer £7300.
A lively auction after the day of golf saw some fantastic prizes reaching great amounts including a flag from the 18th hole at the open championship at Carnoustie which was signed by Francesco Molinari and sold for £505, a putter from Scott Readman that reached £210 and a tennis racquet autographed by Tim Henman which sold for £125.
John said: “I was extremely proud of the golfing community for the way that they embraced the spirit of the day to raise such a large amount of money for two very special causes.”
Commenting on the work that CHSW does for families in the area John described it as “nothing short of magnificent”.
Emily Mitchard, Community Fundraiser for CHSW said: “The charity golf day was an absolutely fantastic day and we are so grateful to everyone who was involved in the event as players and organisers.”
CHSW supports children with life limiting and life-threatening illnesses and their families at its three children’s hospices including Charlton Farm in Wraxall.
The hospice provides many short breaks to families as well as respite and palliative care giving opportunities to make precious memories in a home from home environment with 24/7 care and a dedicated sibling team.
The hospice also offers end of life care and bereavement support for families for as long as they desire.
