Visitors to this year’s Bath Christmas Market will once again be able to access free superfast Wi-Fi, following the success of last year’s pilot project.

Bath & North East Somerset Council is working with Bath Tourism Plus to put in place a superfast public Wi-Fi network.

Councillor Patrick Anketell-Jones (Conservative, Lansdown), Cabinet Member for Economic Development, said: “Following the success of last year’s free Wi-Fi network for visitors, we are once again offering superfast Wi-Fi to a high volume of people.

“This is part of the Digital B&NES project which aims to provide 21st Century technology across Bath and North East Somerset.

“We hope people visiting the market will use the free Wi-Fi network to share their photographs and experiences on social media.”

Stallholders will be able to use the network for processing payments.

The free Wi-Fi zone will be signposted and will cover the areas where the Christmas Market stalls are, and will be available for the duration of the market, 24th November – 11th December.

The network will be called ‘Christmas Market’.

Bath Tourism Plus is encouraging people to sign into the Wi-Fi and to share photographs on social media using the hashtag #BathXmasMarket.

David James, Chief Executive or Bath Tourism Plus, said: “This innovative Wi-Fi scheme will allow even more people to share their ‘live’ experiences of the Bath Christmas Market, regularly voted the UK’s most popular festive market.

“Social media was the fourth most important prompt for visitors to last year’s market so we hope superfast Wi-Fi will invariably encourage even more visitors to spread the magic of Christmas in Bath.”
