Local residents are being urged to take care after a flood alert was issued for the River Avon from Twerton in Bath through to Bristol.

Flooding at the London Road car park in Batheaston

A yellow weather warning for the region has been issued by the Met Office for heavy rain through to tomorrow morning, Tuesday 28th January.

Water levels are continuing to rise in and around Bath, with the level at Bathford being recorded at 3.37 metres at 3pm on Monday afternoon.

A public car park at Batheaston, which is situated next to the river, has already flooded.

The Environment Agency says flooding is forecast to affect low-lying land and roads, particularly around Broadmead Lane in Keynsham, The Shallows and Mead Lane in Saltford.

Properties in Swineford and Keynsham may also be affected if the river continues to rise.

The A431 between Bath and Bristol has been closed at Swineford due to flooding.

Traffic being turned around at Swineford due to the flooding

Bow waves caused by passing vehicles affect homes next to the road at Swineford and South Gloucestershire Council teams have set up road blocks at either end of the village.

The Swan pub is currently still accessible from the Bitton side.

It is the second time this winter that the A431 has been closed at Swineford. Storm Bert caused flooding which closed the road in November.
