Keith Getheridge’s wife, Wendy, was supported by the RUH through her battle with brain tumours, following an earlier diagnosis of breast cancer.
In 2011 she started her own campaign to raise funds for the new Dyson Cancer Centre, and in 2015, whilst undergoing chemotherapy, took part in the Walk of Life organised by RUHX, the official NHS charity of the Royal United Hospitals Bath.
After she sadly passed away, 73-year-old Keith from Trowbridge and his family have continued to fundraise in her name, from pub quizzes to cricket days and skydives.
Keith even convinced 10 members of staff from the Day Surgery Unit at the RUH, where he is a regular volunteer, to take the skydive leap with him.
For his next challenge later this summer Keith will be joining Team RUHX at the charity’s Firewalk at Lansdown Cricket Club.
More than £70,000 has been raised so far by Keith and his family, and the Firewalk will help him to continue towards his £100,000 goal, to help RUHX provide extra extraordinary care for patients just like Wendy.
Those taking part in the Firewalk will be supported to conquer this unique challenge over the coals by a certified firewalking instructor.
It takes place on 13th September and places can be booked on the RUHX website – ruhx.org.uk/events.
