A new short film has been produced to showcase some of the many positive contributions that organisations are making to civic life in Peasedown St John.
‘What does Peasedown mean to you?’ is a ‘feel-good’ film commissioned by local Independent Councillors, Karen Walker and Sarah Bevan.
The pair wanted to produce something that accurately captured and celebrated the voluntary work that goes on throughout the village all year around.
Cllr Sarah Bevan said: “Peasedown St John means a lot to us, so we wanted to make a film about it!
“Day in, day out, there are people who go that extra mile to help others, and for many years have been behind some of the village’s most active community groups.
“The film shows a selection of interviews with business, community and religious leaders, all of which do something to make our village special!”
The 4-minute film was produced by Stu Tucker, who spent a day filming last November, followed by a week of editing and production.
Stu, who also produced the Party in the Park 10th anniversary film last year, said: “I’m used to capturing footage from weddings and family celebrations, so the work I’ve done in Peasedown St John over the last year has been quite different, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it.
“All the community groups and businesses I visited last year were excited to take part. It’s not every day a film like this is produced, so it was a joy to be a part of.”
Following an appeal from the Peasedown councillors last October asking for participants to be involved with the project, the following took part:
- Peasedown St John Methodist Church
- Learning Tree Day Nursery
- Liberty Rocks Productions
- Peasedown Party in the Park
- KARMA Women’s Support Group
- Peasedown St John Residents’ Association
The film was released on social media last week, and received 9,000 views within seven days of being uploaded.
Cllr Karen Walker added: “The response we’ve had from the community has been fantastic. We premiered the film on our Facebook page on Saturday 19thJanuary, and since then the number of views have almost reached 10,000!
“We’re grateful to everyone who has liked and shared the film on social media. It’s a testament to the strength of community spirit in our village.”
