Residents and organisations across the city are being given the opportunity to share their views on proposed changes to council tax support for the most vulnerable.

The Guildhall in Bath

The proposals by Bath & North East Somerset Council aim to ensure that vulnerable households currently receiving support will not see a decrease in their benefits due to inflation or changes in Universal Credit allowance.

The Local Council Tax Support Scheme consultation asks for views on adjusting income bands to align with potential increases to the government’s Universal Credit standard allowance.

The consultation runs until Sunday 15th December.

Councillor Mark Elliott, cabinet member for resources, said: “The Local Council Tax Support Scheme ensures that households on the lowest incomes are supported with the cost of living.

“We are proposing to increase the income bands within the scheme in line with the Universal Credit standard allowance, otherwise there could be instances where vulnerable residents are no longer eligible for support due to their income surpassing outdated thresholds.

“If you’re a resident or an organisation providing local support, we would like to hear from you in our consultation.”

You can take part in the consultation here.
