Children staying in temporary accommodation in Bath, run by housing association Curo, received an extra present under the tree this Christmas thanks to donations by Curo colleagues and local businesses.
Local toy store My Small World provided gifts for all 21 children living in Curo’s temporary accommodation.
Each gift was individually selected and gift-wrapped so that every child received something special.
Dawn Burden, who owns the My Small World toy shop, said: “I feel strongly that Christmas is the time of year to reflect on those in challenging circumstances and do what we can to help.”
Sue Deedigan is a Team Leader at Curo’s Temporary Accommodation Service, which provides a safe and supportive home for local families facing homelessness.
Sue said: “This kind act goes some way to let families know that people in the Bath community care and empathise with their circumstances. There were plenty of smiles all round at our Christmas party as the children were given their presents.”
More gifts were donated by Curo colleagues as well as a number of businesses in nearby Moorland Road, Oldfield Park: This ‘N’ That, Pet Parks, Preddy John & Co Pharmacy and Francis DIY.
Curo colleagues also held a collection for the Salvation Army’s Christmas Present Appeal, along with a collection for Bath Foodbank, donating five crates of food for local families.
The number of children who are homeless and in temporary accommodation in the UK this Christmas hit an eight-year year high of more than 120,000, according to recent analysis by housing charity Shelter.
