Dorothy House Hospice Care’s 2017 Bath Moonlight Walk took place on Saturday 9th September, with over 650 people taking part in the women-only sponsored 8km event.

Now in its eleventh year, the walk kicked off at 10pm from the SouthGate Shopping Centre and the walkers enjoyed seeing the beautiful city of Bath at night.

The event began with a pre-party from 8pm that included music, stalls and a raffle competition to win a Mulberry handbag worth over £1,000. Butlers in the Buff made an appearance and there was a fun warm-up session before the start.

Juliet Millard from Twerton in Bath took part in the Bath Moonlight Walk to support Dorothy House, a charity close to her heart since much-loved son,  CJ Wheeler, was cared for by the hospice before he died of cancer in 2013 aged 22 years.

Since then, the Millard/Wheeler family have raised over £34,000 in a Dorothy House Tulip Fund in memory of CJ.

The winner of Saturday night’s raffle, receiving a luxury handbag donated by Mulberry, was Sarah Hills from Bristol. Sarah who was walking with friends in memory of Dawn Leavy said she was ‘absolutely ecstatic to have won the bag.’ The raffle raised £1,200 and the total sum raised by the event is still to be confirmed.

The annual Bath Moonlight Walk helps Dorothy House raise vital funds to care for people with life-limiting illnesses in B&NES, Somerset and Wiltshire.

This year’s theme for the Walk was ‘Saturday Night Divas’ in a celebration of the people affected by end of life care in our community. Hundreds of walkers marched through the streets of Bath dressed in their finest disco gear to celebrate the work of Dorothy House and share a great night out.

Emily Knight, Events Fundraiser, Dorothy House Hospice Care said of the walk: “The atmosphere throughout the evening was amazing and the enthusiasm of the walkers was truly heart-warming to see.

“Help us raise as many funds as possible this year by sending in your sponsorship money as the entry fees only contribute towards the cost of the event. For every £1 we receive from the NHS, we have to raise another £4.”
