Submitted redevelopment proposals for Weston Garages opposed by villagers

Ben Howlett, the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Bath, has opposed the planning application to redevelop the garage in Weston after speaking to residents in the area at the weekend and meeting with local Councillor, Colin Barrett.

The proposed development includes the refurbishment of a listed property to convert its use to residential and build 7 further residences on the premises.

The proposals have encountered opposition from local residents, with almost a thousand have now signed a petition opposing the development.

Ben said of the proposals: “Many residents have approached me about the proposed development of Weston Garages into private accommodation and are strongly opposed to the destruction of such a core part of the community, to build more housing.

“Having listened to their concerns, I have decided to object to the application myself, on the grounds that this family business should not be replaced by housing, none of which will be classified as affordable housing.

“I would encourage all local residents to make their views known via the BANES Planning Portal.”
