An attendee to a Bath-based day service for adults who are deaf with additional complex needs has won a national Christmas card competition.
Jonathan, who attends Achieve together’s Educational Day Service (EDS) won the care provider’s annual competition with his imaginative and colourful design.
Jonathan’s winning entry, an abstract wreath painted with watercolours, was inspired by the festive hues of a holly bush.
His design began as a pencil sketch and evolved into a vibrant piece of art that impressed judges across the organisation.
The card will be shared with people the organisation supports, team members and families across the Achieve together network.
Jonathan, who has been attending EDS Bath for just over a year, has seen his artistic skills and confidence flourish during this time.
Whilst he was hesitant at first to create original artwork, with the encouragement and support of the team at the day service, Jonathan has developed a love for expressing himself through art and now eagerly embraces creative challenges.
EDS Bath provides inclusive day services for adults who are deaf or deafblind with additional complex needs such as (or including) learning disabilities and autism.
When asked what he enjoys most about art, Jonathan said: “I like colour. It looks better and a little more bright.”
Kay Skipp, the service manager at EDS Bath, said: “We are all so proud of Jonathan and his incredible artwork.
“Winning this competition is a testament to his creativity, determination, and the progress he’s made over the past year.
“It’s wonderful to see his confidence grow and to know his design will be shared with so many people this Christmas.”
