It has been revealed that Bath-based housing association Curo will be acquiring the homes on the new Taylor Wimpey estate at Minsmere Road on the eastern edge of Keynsham for social rent.

The site at Minsmere Road

Curo has also shared an update on the two developments in Keynsham for which it secured planning permission earlier this year – Withies Green next to the A4 Bath Road, and Tintagel Close.

Seventy homes will be built at the eight-acre greenfield site at Minsmere Road, where 30% of the properties will be affordable.

At the 27-acre Withies Green site, Curo will be building 40 flats and 168 houses; 47 of the homes will be available for social rent and 15 for shared ownership.

Meanwhile, Curo’s Tintagel Close scheme involves the demolition of the existing 1960s-built block and building 45 modern homes which will all be available for social rent.

The 44 three-bed maisonettes were deemed “no longer fit for purpose” by Curo and all tenants have been rehoused.

A Curo spokesperson told the Echo: “We’re really pleased to be bringing forward new homes across these sites, helping to tackle the housing crisis and meet local need.”

They said work is not starting on site at Withies Green just yet, although site security fencing has gone up, and both Bath & North East Somerset Council and Curo still need to clear a number of pre-commencement conditions before works can begin.

Land has been acquired on Bath Road

They continued: “We’re targeting an autumn start for the demolition of Tintagel Close. We’re working closely with our contractor, EG Carter, to move various matters forward.

“At Minsmere Road, we’ll be taking on the affordable homes as part of a Section 106 agreement. While Taylor Wimpey is developing the site, we’ll be working with them to acquire the affordable units once they’re complete. We will be managing these for the long-term.”

With more than 25,000 customers, Curo manages more than 14,000 homes in the West of England and is building hundreds of new homes every year.
