Mr Carr is competing in the ETU Multisport European Championships, held between 28th June – 7th July 2019.
Shaun will be racing against the best in Europe in the 45-49 age group.
He will be representing Team GB in the ‘standard’ Duathlon event – a 10km run followed by a 40km cycle and a further 5 km run – which takes place in Târgu Mures on 3rd July.
Shaun said: “This is my first time wearing the Team GB kit, so I have no expectations other than to enjoy the experience.
“It’s just great to have a chance to represent your country later in life.”
Having run regularly for many years, Shaun moved to the multi-sport duathlon and triathlon events in recent years, taking on his first competitive triathlon in 2016.
Shaun added: “I was looking for a new challenge. I love running, but wanted to see if I could improve my brick-like swimming, so triathlon was the obvious next step.”
Shaun completed his preparations for the European Championships last weekend with a fourth-place age-group finish in the British Sprint Triathlon Championships in Nottingham.
Later in July, Shaun will go to Kazan in Russia with Team GB once again, this time competing in the ETU Sprint Triathlon European Championships.
The Triathlon Sprint comprises a 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run.
Shaun’s passion for multi-event sports runs in the family. Aged 12, his eldest daughter Ella has already competed in a number of triathlons. Younger daughter Eliza, aged seven, recently completed her first aquathlon – which she described as “the best day of my life” – and is looking forward to her first triathlon next month.
