A two day conference on community resilience will be held near Bath next month, organised by Avon Fire & Rescue Service to explore what the term means and how it involves local people.
‘Resilient Communities?’ has been organised by Avon Fire & Rescue Service and the Schumacher Institute to explore what this term means to people across diverse sectors, professions and experiences.
Speakers from organisations including the police, fire and rescue service, the Environment Agency, local authorities, community representatives and academics will take part in the conference at the South West Command Development Centre in Lansdown near Bath.
Taking place on Thursday 7th and Friday 8th October, the conference will include talks and workshops that will explore what community resilience is and what it could be.
The event will offer attendees the chance to hear about real-life experiences, best practice and tools for community resilience. It will also explore ways to successfully bring together existing work.
Rob Davis, Assistant Chief Fire Officer at Avon Fire & Rescue Service, who will be speaking at the event said: “As members of the emergency services we regularly come into contact with individuals or whole communities who have been affected by unexpected events.
“In many cases the long and short term impacts of an incident can be limited by effective preparation. Our aim is to explore working with communities to make them more resilient to future shocks and stresses.
“Community resilience means many things to many people, so this conference will pull together a wide range of views and experiences to help the many interested parties in their future planning.”
Tickets are priced at £15 per day (Thursday 8th or Friday 9th) or £25 for both days.
Ticket includes refreshments and lunch.
