Emergency repairs are being carried out this New Year’s Eve to resolve a gas leak at Combe Down.

The closure will affect Bradford Road between Pioneer Avenue and Southstoke Road.

Alan Bickerstaff, Wales & West Utilities’ gas emergency service manager for Bath, said tonight: “We are working in the Bradford Road area of Bath to repair a small leak on a gas pipe running beneath the road.

“In order to keep the local community, road users and our colleagues safe while we work, we will need to close Bradford Road between its junctions of Pioneer Avenue and Southstoke Road.

“A diversion route is clearly signposted. Our engineers are working as safely and as quickly as possible to fix the leak, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, we expect to complete the work and reopen the road later this evening.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of local residents and road users while we carry out this essential repair.

“Whilst it is important that we fix this leak, it does not pose any serious safety concerns and there is no impact on local gas supplies.”
