The 240-pupil college, which has a global reputation for its prestigious training of nannies, nursery nurses and other childcare professionals, wants to add a single-storey extension at its main teaching site in Oldfield Park.
The college’s York Place campus on London Road in Bath was previously used for teaching until student numbers grew and Norland moved to its new five-storey teaching and learning facility in 2016, having extended and converted the former Hayesfield School Sixth Form.
The planning application for 39-41 Upper Oldfield Park says the extension at the rear left corner of the main building will be built of Bath stone. It will have a flat roof and have a “minimal” visual impact.
The application explains: “The proposal will provide Norland College with a much-needed communal chillout space for students to relax between lessons, spaces which are not available elsewhere in the college buildings.
“This space will have a positive contribution to the well-being and learning of the students attending the college.”
The planning reference is 25/01644/FUL.
In a separate planning application to Bath & North East Somerset Council, the college is applying to install two external air conditioning units within the balcony area on the west side of the building. The planning reference is 25/01733/FUL.
The deadline for both applications is 6th June.
