SECTA, the Wednesday club night at popular Bath nightclub Po Na Na, will be encouraging locals to ‘party with a purpose’ tomorrow, Wednesday 16th November, in aid of charitable cause Movember.
Over the last few years, November has been renamed ‘Movember’ or ‘No Shave November’ by many.
The trend began when men across the world were encouraged to grow their moustaches for a month to raise awareness for various issues surrounding men’s health – notably testicular cancer or, as it is this year, men’s mental health issues.
The Movember Foundation is a charity running for thirteen years, which aims to reduce the premature deaths of men by 25% by 2030.
In 2014, figures showed that 26.5% of men aged 45-49 (per 100,000) committed suicide. Around one in eight men are diagnosed with a common mental health disorder, such as anxiety, depression and OCD.
This is where the Movember Foundation is stepping in, to raise awareness that mental health problems are a problem for both women and men alike.
SECTA is a new club night in Bath formed by three male DJs; AwesomeWells, ARK and Ben Tidey.
As young men, they are aware of the mental health issues that surround us in day to day life. To raise awareness for the cause, they are holding an event at Po Na Na with free stick-on moustaches for those who can’t grow facial hair, and are giving £2 of everyone’s entry money to their Movember Foundation page.
The three DJs said: “We also have a new, SECTA-specific drink being released on the same night called ‘SECTA NECTAR’. It will be £2 on its launch night, with 50p of every SECTA NECTAR going towards our Movember Foundation page.”
Doors will be open at 10:30pm on Wednesday (16th November). If you add your names to the Facebook event page, entry cost will be £2 instead of £4.
