Children put the finishing touches to Royal Victoria Park’s wildflower meadows

Green fingered children from St Andrew’s Primary School in Bath are to help put the finishing touches to the new wildflower meadows in Bath’s Royal Victoria Park.

The children, aged between 3 and 5, will help to sow wildflower seeds on the newly created meadows on Wednesday 4th November.

Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Parks Team has spent the past two months creating the meadows using rubble excavated from the newly-refurbished skate park.

The recycled material, which has been used in the landscaping of the new meadows, would otherwise have gone to landfill.

Cllr Martin Veal (Conservative, Bathavon North), Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “A new meadow in the heart of Bath will provide ideal conditions for rare wildflowers and create a fantastic new habitat for bees, butterflies and other wildlife in the heart of the city.

“The seeds, which have been sourced from St Catherine’s Valley in my ward, should begin to germinate in the spring, providing a stunning, colourful display throughout the summer months.”
