A charity which has supported the Royal United Hospital in recent years is planning to open an office in Newbridge in Bath.
In 2022 The Liz and Jack Daniel Foundation gained planning permission to demolish a block of three garages behind 80 Newbridge Hill and build two affordable accommodation studio lets specifically designed for the key workers of the city’s Royal United Hospital.
Liz Daniel, whose husband Jack passed away before her, spent much of her later life at the RUH, and used much of her income as a landlady to buy needed equipment for the hospital.
The foundation was set up in her last year, and carried on after she died in 2020.
It continues her work by letting out her portfolio and using the net profit for charitable causes.
However, the construction costs for the Newbridge Hill project were beyond expectations and rendered the project unfeasible.
So instead, the charity is applying to Bath & North East Somerset Council to turn the three single garages/stores into a charitable office.
The foundation says: “To ensure the smooth running of the charity, office space is required, and we now submit an application to convert the existing garages to form a well-insulated structure suitable for the day-to-day administration of the charity.”
A bat survey report was carried out for the original planning application which found no roosting bats.
An updated report has been commissioned as part of the change of use application for which the planning reference is 24/02849/FUL.
The deadline for people to comment on the proposal is 30th August.
