When they were watching Bridgerton, activity co-ordinator Brionne and home manager Olivia couldn’t help but notice the similarities between the homes of the characters and Shockerwick House, which was built just prior to the Regency era in 1750, and set about recreating scenes from the popular period drama.
With a modiste unavailable, the team hired costumes from local supplier Bath Theatrical and set up classic Bridgerton shots including afternoon tea, croquet and, of course, reading the latest copy of Lady Whistledown’s newsletter.
Rumour has it the residents of Shockerwick House would give even Viscount Bridgerton a run for his money on the croquet lawn.
Brionne said: “Having the opportunity to host unique events makes my job incredibly rewarding; watching the residents’ faces light up when they saw the staff that they see every day, dressed in period clothing, was priceless. One of our residents, Josephine, was so excited she wanted to wear the full outfit!”
Josephine, who is 98, said: “Period dramas are my favourite, I love the costumes and grandeur.
“I’m very pleased that the younger generations still enjoy watching these types of shows, even if they have quirky modern twists. I had a lot of fun dressing up and recreating the show.”
