Churches and schools have generously supported the Somer Valley Foodbank through the Autumn by donating over 2 tonnes worth of food from their Harvest Collections.
Over 2 tonnes of food has been given which shows the continued support of the community for the work of the Foodbank.
In total, donations were provided by 10 local schools, 12 churches, several businesses and individuals.
The Somer Valley Foodbank Project Chairman, Paul Woodward, says: “This was the best year ever and we say a big ‘thank you’ to everyone.
“This is a fantastic effort by all those groups and we are very grateful to all those who gave us the food to distribute.
“Thanks to the efforts of everyone, the warehouse is looking quite full at the moment. Although this is a fantastic amount collected, it won’t last long due to the increased demand as this year we have given away more food than we have collected in.
“So, we will be out collecting again at the end of November ready for the Christmas period when we once again expect the generous nature of the people in the Somer Valley area to be evident.”
People can access food from the Foodbank if they can obtain a voucher from an agency such as the CAB, DHI, Curo, Sirona, P.E.O.P.L.E., health visitors and some schools.
