The 8th Bike Bath event will take place on Sunday 30th June at the Bath Recreation Ground, with 1500 riders from across the region raising money for local charities, including Bath-based Mentoring Plus.
Organised by cycling experts Iconic Cycling Events, the popular annual sportive is sponsored by Redrow Homes and regional property company HPH Property.
The event is also supported by many local businesses, who enter teams or support the event with local produce including Bath Ales and Barbers Cheese.
Richard Best, of Iconic Cycling Events said: “Bike Bath has become a much-loved annual event where a cycling community of keen club riders, enthusiasts and families come together to ride in the glorious countryside around Bath.
“This year we are delighted once again to be championed by Redrow Homes and also to launch our partnership with local cycle club, VC Walcot who will be supporting the event with over 30 volunteers over the course of the weekend.
“The goodwill of all those involved – from sponsors and supporters to food producers – helps us to achieve a positive and lasting impact for active lifestyles, great charities, local businesses and the economy of the area.”
Dave Bexon, Group Marketing Director of Redrow Homes said: “It’s a well-known fact that cycling regularly is great for your health. At Redrow we are determined to improve the health of the nation and supporting bike rides such as Bike Bath is an excellent way of encouraging us all to be more active.
“We’re all really looking forward to getting on our bikes and letting our endorphins flow while taking in the historic and stunning surroundings of Bath and the Somerset countryside.”
Nick Rearden, Secretary of VC Walcot added: “The history of our club closely coincides with that of Bike Bath in the sense that we’ve always been about great bike rides in the countryside surrounding our city.
“Over the years we’ve had so many members introduced to cycling through Bike Bath that it would seem remiss not to work even closer for the greater good of more cycling and Mentoring Plus”
Enthusiastic cyclists of all levels will tackle a choice of 25, 50 or 80-mile routes which are marked to aid rider’s navigation. This year a number of ride captains will ride routes to support those riders who have never ridden in such an event before.
Jamie Luck, Director of Mentoring Plus, said: “We’re delighted and proud to be one of the chosen charities for Bike Bath 2019. On behalf of Mentoring Plus, I’d like to extend an invitation to businesses to enter teams and welcome individuals to ride for us.
“Thanks to Iconic Cycling Events for inviting us to be involved and help raise our profile.
“It will be the fourth year that we’ve taken part in the ride. Last year our team raised over £5,000 which made a huge difference to our work training volunteer mentors to work alongside young people facing significant challenges in our community. We’d love to get an even bigger team out there next year!”
