A visit by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall today, 31st January 2017, coincides with the announcement that Bath’s oldest charity will be changing its name from St John’s Hospital to St John’s Foundation.
The Charity, having previously been known as St John’s Hospital, since it was established in 1174, supports this change in name with the launch of a new website, to better help signpost people to get the support they need, when they need it most.
Sue Porto, Chief Executive of St John’s Foundation, said: “Today is a momentous day in our Charity’s history, as we officially announce our change in name to, St John’s Foundation Est.1174.
“This change in our identity recognises our heritage and experience, while better reflecting the breadth of our work as it has evolved over our 843 year history.
“It reaffirms our commitment to providing a foundation of support for people and organisations throughout Bath and the surrounding area.”
During her visit today, The Duchess of Cornwall will officially open Rosenberg House, the most recently redeveloped almshouse owned by the Charity, in the heart of Bath.
Rosenberg House underwent total structural refurbishment to help improve accommodation and support residents to live as independently as possible through providing state-of-the-art facilities.
Sue Porto added: “The Duchess of Cornwall’s visit is a timely opportunity for our Patron to see first-hand, the positive impact our work is having in the community and to celebrate this significant milestone for Bath’s oldest charity.
“The refurbishment of Rosenberg House endorses our charitable commitment to helping people to enjoy an excellent quality of life through supporting them to live as independently as possible.”
The Duchess of Cornwall has been the Patron of St John’s Foundation since July 2009, last visiting the Charity in 2010.
