Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Recycling Centre on Upper Bristol Road will be closed again on Friday 10th June and Saturday 11th June, to allow for the replacement of Bath’s Destructor Bridge.

There may also be a further closure on Sunday 12th June.  Local residents are advised to check @destructorbrdg on Twitter for up-to-date news before travelling to the recycling centre that day.

Normal opening hours on a Sunday are 9am to 1pm.

The closure is necessary to allow the replacement of Bath’s Destructor Bridge as part of the regeneration of Bath Riverside.

The Council’s other Recycling Centres in Radstock and Keynsham will be open as usual.

The new bridge is being installed to provide access for Bath Riverside residents to and from the development and will have two traffic lanes, a cycle lane and a footpath.

Designed by award winning consultants Flint and Neill, along with Knight Architects, it takes the form of an elegant steel arch.

The former Destructor Bridge, a single-lane structure dating from the 1870s, was originally a railway bridge.

It was moved to Midland Road in the early 1900s to provide access to the city’s incinerator, hence the name Destructor Bridge.
